I build websites from Chauliabari, in Bajali district, Assam. Most of my clients are within a couple of hours of here — tour operators, a dental clinic, a chilly powder brand, shops, coaching centres — and almost all of them come to me with the same problem. They are not invisible because their business is small. They are invisible because nothing about them exists where people are actually looking.
Here is what "getting found on Google" really means for a small business in Assam, in the order that actually matters.
The short version
- Claim and completely fill your Google Business Profile — before anything else.
- Make your name, address and phone identical everywhere online.
- Build a site that opens fast on a mid-range phone on mobile data.
- Write pages using the words customers actually type.
- End every enquiry on WhatsApp, not a contact form.
1Google Business Profile comes before the website
If you do only one thing after reading this, do this one. A Google Business Profile is the free listing that puts you on Google Maps and in the little box of local results that appears above everything else when someone searches "tour operator near me" or "computer classes Pathsala".
It costs nothing and takes about twenty minutes. Most businesses near me either haven't claimed one, or claimed one and left it half-empty. Half-empty is almost the same as not having one.
Fill in every field: the exact business name, category, full address, phone number, hours, and at least ten real photos. Not stock photos — actual photos of your shop, your vehicles, your staff, your product. Google's local results heavily favour profiles that look alive, and customers decide in about three seconds whether a listing looks real.
A Google Business Profile with ten real photos and twenty reviews will out-rank a beautiful website with neither. If you have to choose one to start with, choose the profile.
2Your name, address and phone number must match everywhere
This one is boring and it is the thing most people get wrong. Google cross-checks your business details across the internet. If your Google profile says "Chauliabari, Bajali" and your Facebook page says "Barpeta" and your JustDial listing has an old phone number, Google gets less confident that you are a real, findable business — and confidence is what local ranking is built on.
Pick one exact version of your name, address, and phone number. Write it down. Use that exact version on your website, your Google profile, your Facebook page, your invoices, everywhere. Same spelling, same abbreviations, same phone format. It sounds trivial; it is one of the highest-return hours you will spend.
3A website that opens fast on a cheap phone
Now the website. And the single most important thing about it, for this part of the country, is that it opens quickly on a mid-range Android phone on mobile data — not on a laptop with fibre.
Most of your customers are on their phone, often on a patchy connection, often in daylight where a dim, low-contrast design is unreadable. A site built on a heavy page builder that takes eight seconds to load has already lost. People leave, and Google notices they left.
This is why I build plain, fast sites — no heavy frameworks, no bloated plugins, no autoplay video on the front page. It is also why every site I build gets tested on a real phone before it goes live, not just in a desktop browser.
What actually slows sites down
- Huge unoptimised photos. A 4 MB photo straight from a phone camera, on a page with six of them, is 24 MB. Resized properly it's under 1 MB total.
- Page builder bloat. Drag-and-drop builders load enormous amounts of code you never use.
- Too many plugins. Every one adds weight and another thing that can break.
- Sliders and autoplay video. Almost nobody scrolls a slider past the first image. It costs you speed for nothing.
4Write pages for what people actually type
People do not search "premium bespoke travel solutions". They search "Meghalaya package from Guwahati", "chilly powder wholesale Assam", "computer course near me". Your pages should use those words, in plain language, because those are the words Google is matching against.
Practically, that means having a real page for each main thing you sell, with the service and the place in the heading. A single page called "Services" listing eight things in one paragraph will rank for none of them. Eight short pages, each about one thing, will.
And write for a person, not for a search engine. Repeating "web design Bajali Assam" fifteen times used to work about a decade ago. Now it mostly reads as spam to humans and gets you nothing from Google.
5Make WhatsApp the finish line
This is the part imported advice from abroad always gets wrong. In India, the customer journey does not end at a contact form that emails you. It ends on WhatsApp.
Every site I build has enquiry forms that open WhatsApp with the customer's details already typed in — dates, package, pack size, whatever the business needs. The customer taps send, and the message lands on the owner's phone like any normal message. No dashboard to check, no email nobody opens, no new app to learn.
For most small businesses I actively recommend against adding a payment gateway at first. Gateways take a cut and add paperwork. Taking the order on WhatsApp and collecting by UPI is faster and costs nothing. Add a gateway later, once orders are steady enough to justify it.
Real sites we've built
Advice is easy. Here is actual work — open any of these on your phone and try the enquiry form, because that's the part most websites get wrong and the part I care about most.

The honest summary
If you run a business anywhere around Bajali, Pathsala, Barpeta or Nalbari and you want to be found online, the order is: claim and fill your Google Business Profile, make your details consistent everywhere, then build a fast site that ends in a WhatsApp message. In that order. A beautiful website with no Google profile is a shop with no signboard.
None of this is secret and none of it needs an agency retainer. If you want to do it yourself, do it — the steps above are the whole thing. If you'd rather someone just built it properly in a week, that's what I do.
Common questions
How much does a small business website cost in Assam?
A one-page site with an enquiry form starts at ₹8,000, and a full five to six page business site is ₹15,000. Your own domain is ₹4,500 for the first year including setup. Prices are fixed and agreed before work starts — never after.
Do I need a website if I already have a Facebook page?
They do different jobs. Facebook reaches people who already follow you. A website and a Google Business Profile reach people searching for what you sell who have never heard of you. Most of my clients keep both.
How long does it take to build a business website?
About one week. Day one is a twenty minute call, day two you send photos and prices on WhatsApp, days three to five I build it, day six you tell me what to change, and day seven it goes live on your domain.
Will customers be able to contact me directly from the website?
Yes. Every site I build sends enquiries straight to your WhatsApp as a normal message with the customer's details already filled in, so there's nothing new to learn and no dashboard to check.
Want one of these for your business?
Tell me what your business does and I'll reply with a price and what's included. No forms, no call scheduling, no sales pitch.
